Marin County faces serious wildfire risk. Multiple agencies now offer reimbursement grants and direct funding for homeowners who complete qualifying improvements — from ember-resistant vents to full roof replacements. No income requirement for most programs.
The most generous local program — available to all San Rafael residents. Reimburses 50¢ for every $1 you invest in qualifying wildfire hazard reductions, up to $15,000 per parcel over 10 years. Covers roofing, vents, siding, decking, and defensible space.
Up to $5,000 per parcel per year. Ember-resistant vents, gutter guards, and garage door seals are 100% reimbursable. All other approved work requires a 50% homeowner match.
Separate grants for home hardening AND vegetation management. No income restrictions. Requires a free evaluation within the past year. First-come, first-served.
